Today’s weather was a bit damp and overcast, not the best conditions for stunning aerial footage, but that didn’t stop me from heading out. Instead, I decided to visit a couple of locations I might not usually prioritise when the weather is perfect. Despite the grey skies, the day turned out to be unexpectedly rewarding. Here’s how it went.
Beamish Museum: Industrial Heritage from Above
First on my list was Beamish Museum, a famous open-air museum in County Durham that brings to life the history of the North East during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum recreates life across different eras with a 1900s town, 1940s farm, and a 1900s colliery village, complete with vintage trams, shops, and even working steam engines.
On my visit to Beamish, I discovered that drones are not typically allowed within the museum grounds, and I had to follow this policy while there. Despite this, I was still able to capture some aerial video and drone photos from nearby locations where flying was legally permitted. The shots provided a different perspective of the museum, highlighting how its various historical sections are laid out across the landscape. Even with overcast skies, Beamish remains a charming place, and I’m glad I managed to capture a bit of its industrial heritage.
Beamish Hall: A Warm Welcome at a Historic Venue
Next, I decided to take a chance at Beamish Hall, a beautiful 17th-century country house located near the museum. Built in 1628, this historic hall has seen many transformations over the centuries. It started as a private residence and has been home to several notable families, including the Eden and Shafto families. Today, it’s a luxury hotel and event venue, known for its picturesque setting and elegant architecture.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff at Beamish Hall were incredibly friendly and accommodating, inviting me to capture the property even in the less-than-ideal weather. I took some fantastic aerial videoand drone photos, showcasing the hall’s grand design and the lovely grounds surrounding it. They’ve even invited me back on a sunny day to photograph it again, which I’m really looking forward to.
Looking Forward to Sharing More
Despite the damp and grey conditions, today was a success. I’m excited to share the photos and footage from both Beamish Museum and Beamish Hall, and I’ll definitely be returning on a brighter day to capture these stunning locations in all their glory.
Stay tuned for more, and thanks for joining me on this rainy adventure!
