Rookhope Arch, Weardale

Rookhope Arch, an enduring symbol of the North Pennines’ rich industrial past, stands as a testament to the area’s lead mining history. Originally built in the 19th century, this iconic structure was part of a smelting mill, where lead ore was processed. The arch, constructed from local stone, is all that remains of the long flue system used to carry smoke and fumes away from the smelting process.

Through aerial footage, I captured the dramatic setting of Rookhope Arch, nestled in the rugged landscape of Weardale, highlighting its historical significance and connection to the region's mining heritage. Ground-level photography emphasizes the weathered stonework and the surrounding environment, evoking the industrial resilience of the past. This project preserves the legacy of Rookhope Arch, offering a visual tribute to its role in the story of the North Pennines.
